About Ross “Butch” Immediato

Growing up on the Chesapeake Bay as a 6-year-old, it didn’t take long for Butch to develop a passion for boats. Butch developed the love of being around the water on his parents’ boats. Having his 1st boat at the age of 8, he has had a good amount of experience with operating, maintaining, and understanding them.

At the age of 18, he enlisted in the US Navy and worked on heavy-duty diesel, machinery, hydraulics, and generators. He Became a Gas Turbine Electrician and had orders for the USS The Sullivan DDG-68 an Arleigh Class Destroyer. His duties were working and operating on the main propulsion and auxiliary equipment. This is where you will see the difference of Butch being intimate with the vessel’s equipment during the trail run.

Shortly after his commitment to the Navy, he became an operator in a combined cycle power plant at an 1100-megawatt Energy Ctr. He worked his way up and then had an opportunity in overseeing Preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance at the facility.  As a young adult, the calling of being on the water was a must. So that is when he contacted a local Maryland Senior Surveyor to mentor under. Capt. Joyce Nolen took butch under her wing in 2004-05 and Butch then joined up as a  Surveyor Associate of (SAMS) Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors in 2005 and attained the status of Accredited Marine Surveyor in 2010.

One of his early influences came from studying “David Pascoe’s” Surveying Fiberglass Power Boats. He mentored under a senior Accredited Marine Surveyor SAMS Member from 2004 to 2006, learning how to survey, evaluate, and inventory yachts and small boats. He gained a tremendous amount of knowledge and Experience by having the honor to shadow the AMS Joyce Nolen of Northeast Maryland.

In addition, he mentored under a marine technician from 2006-to 2008-ongoing to expand his knowledge of small craft engines and mechanical systems.

Butch has had a long and diversified career, some of which is detailed as follows:

  • Enlisted in the United States Navy, served on board a 160 Foot Research vessel as a diesel mechanic oiler servicing 16V396 MTU mains and Ships service diesel generator and auxiliary equipment.
  • 6 years’ experience in the United States Navy in engineering maintenance and management achieving the rank of Gas Turbine Systems Electrician Third Class Petty Officer.
